It has been a while, so, our next meeting will be held this Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Monmouth County Library headquarters in Manalapan from 10:00am - Noon. If you need directions you may find them here.

Scherelene Schatz and Cheryl O'Connor will both be attending the meeting. If you have any specific topics you would like to see discussed please send them to me so I can add them to our agenda.

We have the room until 1:30 so after the meeting we will be having pizza for lunch.

Morning All
Just a quick reminder that our next CJILL meeting is scheduled for tomorrow wednesday July 14, 2010 from 10:00am to Noon at the Central Jersey Regional Library Co-Op(CJRLC) office in Manalapan. If you need directions to the office you can find them here.

Now that the state budget has been signed we will discuss the impact it will have on how we provide interlibrary loan services to our patrons. So bring your questions, concerns, ideas and we will see what we can come up with.

Rescheduling of June 17, 2010 CJILL Meeting to July 14, 2010

Please Note:
The decision was made to reschedule the CJILL meeting that was to be held on this Thursday, June 17, 2010. The general consensus is that we should hold the meeting after the state budget has been signed so that we can see what we are really up against. The new date for the CJILL meeting is now Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - 10 to Noon at the Central Jersey Regional Library Co-Op office.

This will be a critical meeting for most of us as we attempt to figure out how/if we can continue to provide interlibrary loan service to our patrons despite the current economic crisis our state is facing. We can use your thoughts and input on this issue so if you can, please, plan to attend.

Hello All

It is just about time for our next CJILL meeting so I figured I had best get the information out to you all. As we discussed in our last meeting we are going to piggy back our meeting on Scherelene Schatz's JerseyCat User's Group Meeting at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan which will be ending around 12:30 on October 22, 2009. We will segue from the JerseyCat meeting right into the CJILL (12:30-2:30) meeting.

Lunch is being provided for us by Connie and the region office (Thanks Connie and Carol), so if you are planning on staying for the CJILL meeting please let me know and I will send you a menu to fill out and return to me.

Hope you all had an enjoyable holiday break? I just wanted to post a reminder that this wednesday January 14, 09 is the date for our next region interlibrary loan meeting. This meeting will be taking place Monmouth University library and if you are unfamiliar with where we are located you you can find directions here. Since we are currently still in winter intersession you may park in the lot right beside the library or if that is full in the student lot directly adjacent to the library.

The meeting will be from 10-12 but feel free to arrive a bit early as we will have some coffee and breakfast snacks for you.

If you are planning on attending please RSVP me so that we can get a bit of a head count. Also feel free to send me agenda items that you would like to have discussed at this meeting.

October 8th, 2008 CJILL Meeting

Hello All
Despite the shorter days and cooler nights it is still hard to grasp that fall is here and it has been three months since our last CJILL meeting. Well I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are back full of great ideas and lots of energy for us to tap into with regards to the world of interlibrary loan.

Thanks to the graciousness of Jeff and Betty at Georgian Court we will be getting a change of scenery for our upcoming meeting which will be held on the Georgian Court Campus in the S. Mary Joseph Cunningham Library. For those of you not familiar with the location the following link will provide you with directions. As usual the meeting will run from 10:00am to Noon. Connie will be attending and will catch us up on all the goings on in the region and although Scherlene has a prior engagement she has highlighted on some items to be mentioned at the meeting.

As always.....please send me whatever agenda items you would like to see discussed. Just to get the ball rolling in that direction, one of the things that is always on my mind with regards to interlibrary loan is how can we do things better. Our CJILL group is made up of a diverse group of libraries, all using different types of systems and frameworks to get our jobs done. I see this as a major strength and one that should be cultivated when attempting to evaluate best practices for ILL. So think about your ILL departments and practices that work for you and those that do not and perhaps we will come up with some areas for discussion. Another area we might look to is the current economic chaos going on both state and federal level. Though it is early days has it begun to affect how you are doing ILL business? Is it affecting services you can bring to you ILL patrons? Just some thoughts. Hope to see you all on the 8th. I will send out an email reminder or two and if you have any questions or comments with regards to the meeting or agenda items just give me a call.

Scherelene Schatz will be in attendence and she will be bringing her presentation on how we can customize our JerseyCat spalsh screens. Amy Kearns will also be attending and she will help spear head a planning discussion to evaluate the future of our ILL committee. So if you want your voice counted, so to speak, please plan on attending, the more input the better.

Next CJILL Meeting Information

Hi All,
Now that school is back in session I just wanted to post a little reminder about our next CJILL meeting which is coming up. Our next meeting is set for October 16th 2007 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the region office on route 9 south in Freehold.

I know there was interest raised in having KathyPeiffer to attend to discuss the plans and goals the state library has in mind for the future, however, she will be out of state at the time of our meeting and will be unable to attend. Scherelene will be in attendance and she will catch us up not only on what is going on at the state level but also ISO ILL and JerseyCat and JerseyClicks.

Our new Program Coordinator Amy Kearns will also be in attendance to meet us and catch us up on goings on at the region level.

If any of you have topics you would like to see discussed at this meeting either post them here or email them to me so that I may add them to the agenda.

ILL Policy Proposal- The New Standards

Here is a listing of new standards to be put in place regarding Interlibrary Loan Policy. If we get all libraries in the state of New Jersey to follow these new standards, we would have a much easier more cost effective way of sending and receiving Interlibrary Loans.

Standard File Type Used:
The Standard File Type to be used will be the PDF format since it is the most widely used secure document type available.

Sending & Receiving Documents:
For sending and receiving, ARIEL used IP addresses. This brings about some major security issues since a port has to be open in order to send and receive documents. If a port gets blocked, the file is never received.

With new standards in place, document delivery will no longer be done through IP addresses, but through emails. Each library should create an email account reserved specifically for the sending and receiving of ILL’s.

When sending out a document, a standard cover letter should be attached to the email detailing what organization or library the document is being sent from, and instructions on how to open the document. (See Example).

Senders should always request a receipt from the recipient confirming they have received the document.

Senders should limit .pdf document size to 10 Mb.

Document Storage:
Documents should be stored on a server or designated hard drive for a predetermined amount of time.
Example: 2 weeks

Software Cost:
ARIEL can cost as much as $1300 for the full version of the program. A compatible scanner can go for around $600.

Software for creating secure pdf files can be purchased for as little as $20 and is compatible with just about any scanner on the market today.

Note: Please check the software package that came with your scanner first before purchasing additional pdf software, as it may contain software or built in features to create pdf documents already.

The programs listed are just a few of the many pdf converters on the market today. Adobe Acrobat Reader Professional is the current standard in the market and is most recommended, however it is also one of the more costly pdf converters on the market. For document delivery, we only need to be able to create a secure pdf file, which all of these programs will do. Each piece of software comes with its own special features, some of the more expensive pieces of software will let you edit or make changes to the pdf files.

Scanner Requirements:
With ARIEL you are required to use specific scanners which can be quite pricy and sometimes unaffordable for customers since there is limited compatibility with this program.

With the new standards in place, libraries no longer have to worry about compatibility issues. Any scanner will work just as long as it can scan a good quality image into the computer.
Note: Any scanner that can scan an image in at a resolution of 300DPI will be sufficient.
